Best asian restaurants in Toronto in 2017

The top Chinese restaurants in Toronto represent only a portion of the varied variety of regional offerings available here. And though many would claim you need to visit Markham and Richmond Hill to get the actual deal, Scarborough our downtown Chinatowns and areas in between have their share of winners.

Taste of China

The incredibly clumsy name doesn’t detract from the fact Taste of China is, for many, a taste of excellence. Popular among the late night crowd for sizzling seafood on frying pans and its excellent General Tao Chicken, it’s one of the places which you just have to go when you’re in downtown Chinatown.


Asian Legend

By far the biggest mainstay Chinese restaurant chain in Toronto, this eatery is the spot to really go when you’re looking for a huge number of authentic Chinese offerings. I’m a huge supporter of their Peking duck, along with the soup dumplings here are constantly on my order list.


Luckee

This upscale eatery from Susur Lee inside the Soho Met features all-day dim sum, sweet-flavorful Wuxi spare ribs and fancy cocktails, all served beneath the glow of some garish quasi- stereotypical Chinese ornamentation and lightings.


Congee Wong (Finch and Leslie)

There are so many Congee Wongs near that it can make your head spin, but for my money my favourite one is the North York location. Certainly it could get crowded during mealtimes, but at least it’s open late, and their Cantonese Chow Mein Fried Chili Turnip Patties never fails to make me grin.


Hong Shing Chinese Restaurant

The longstanding association near City Hall could be a little oily nevertheless they make an oh-so-pleasing Sizzling Chili Chicken and General Tao Chicken. Wash it all down with cocktails with names like the Stormy Night in Hong Kong.


Qin Tang Taste

Home to the chewy that is awesomely biang biang noodles and also other Shanxi specialties, this little Scarborough eatery is in fact the first Toronto place of a substantial Beijing-based chain. My personal favourite? The Shanxi Slit Noodle with Stir-Fried Pork Slices. Dish that is delicious, long name.


House of Gourmet

This eatery near Dundas and Spadina seems modest from the outside but is a constant hub of activity, with excellent dishes like claypot tofus and satay beef noodles. It even has a BBQ joint that is devoted takeout, perfect for all those nights when you just wish to feast on your own couch on pork or duck.


Rol San

This late-night Chinatown favourite is constantly jam packed with those who can not get enough of their classics like ho buff noodles and hot ginger beef. Not to mention, it's an extremely popular all-day dim sum.


Sam Woo BBQ

This Scarborough mainstay continues to be meeting old-school Cantonese BBQ pork enthusiasts for more than twenty years. Tender and perfectly crispy roast pork skin BBQ pork meat blended with old school unfussy décor makes for an incredible meal.
